Housing Inventory Count - Review and Update Your Program Inventory

The Housing Inventory Count (HIC) is an annual report on each CoC's bed and unit inventories for Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, and Permanent Housing. HUD now requires that the HIC be produced directly out of our HMIS. To do that, we need for all agencies with homeless-dedicated beds (whether or not they put client level data in HMIS) to review and update their information. This must be complete by February 16.

On or near Friday, January 26 all agencies in each region should have received an email from their CoC Coordinator (or designee) with instructions for reviewing and updating HIC project rows. If you did not get that email and you're a person who is responsible for holding this kind of information (typically a program/grants manager or director or higher), please reach out to your CoC Coordinator ASAP. Alternatively, you can find instructions and resources for engaging in this task at our website HERE.

Some agencies will only have one or a few rows. Others will have a lot more. Additionally, some programs' bed/unit inventory changes very little from year to year, while others see a lot of shifts across time. We recommend setting some time aside ASAP to look through your rows and get a sense of what your volume looks like. Then, budget that time over the next several weeks to make sure you get those in.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out to your CoC Coordinator and/or the ICA Helpdesk.
